Arable

At Vexour we belief in farming in harmony with nature. This is why we have been investing heavily in the principle of regenerative farming. Ultimately regenerative farming promotes diverse planting and involves practices like cover cropping, agroforestry and integrating livestock into the arable regime. We aim to improve our soils through continuous organic matter addition and minimal tillage. Over time we have been reducing synthetic pesticides and herbicides, relying more on natural pest control methods. This, we have experienced, does create a more balanced ecosystem where natural predators and pollinators thrive.

In practice this means we have a very diverse rotational planting regime of: milling wheat, barley, OSR, beans, oats, peas, linseed, maize and fodder beet. We grow cover crops which are winter grazed by our sheep and cattle. We have introduced our own bees to promote pollination and yield of the arable crops.
